FAMILY GROWTH CHEST

white oak, brass inlay, poplar

The piece suggests an evolution of the ritual of marking a children's height in the home's doorway or passthrough. Instead of the mark alone, one marks on a hidden chest of drawers which is revealed by a tambour which slides up as they grow. Artifacts from times of that height are forever kept in it's respective drawer. Over time, the piece becomes a chronology of childhoods, with an inlay which evolves as a fruitful vine - representing life and the vitality of the family and home.

The chronology of drawers may be left in a forward position to display, or may remain hidden with the tambour left completely down.
